Angelina Chobanova, a 5 year old little girl, needs help in obtaining a bone marrow transplant for treatment of a rare form of Leukaemia
We make this request to all people who would like to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate. We ask that every person who is touched by this story help Angelina to begin life anew – a life of happiness and without sadness. She is a dazzling and beautiful child whose life changed instantly on September 23, 2009. After a short walk, Angie’s mother noticed that she had many abnormal bruises on her legs. Angie’s mother became concerned and took her to a doctor to make sure that there were no problems. After extensive testing, however, the doctors discovered that Angie had a form of Leukaemia. Angelina Chobanova, a 5 year old girl, requires a bone marrow transplant to help her overcome this rare form of Leukaemia. After Angie was diagnosed with this condition, she was admitted to the Clinic for Children’s Haematology and Oncology in Varna, Bulgaria. After thorough examinations and tests by the Leukaemia specialists, her doctors concluded that her form of Leukaemia was due to a molecular equivalent of the Philadelphia Chromosome. It was the first recorded case of its kind in Varna. The only treatment that can effectively treat this condition is a special surgical procedure that is not possible in Bulgaria because the necessary medical equipment is not available. The nearest place that Angie could receive this treatment is in Germany where the technology is readily available. Unfortunately the fee for Angie’s treatment is € 200 000. As of November 3, 2009, Angie and her parents have been at the KMT Klinik für Knochenmarktransplantationen und Hämatologie/Onkologie which is located in Idar-Obertstein, Germany, where she has undergone the initial stages of chemotherapy. Initial testing on Angie’s 2 year old brother concluded that he is not a match for a bone marrow transplant. Currently the clinic has offered to find a bone marrow donor but the fee for the service will cost the family an additional € 15 000. If you would like to help Angie and her family during this time of difficulty and financial hardship you are welcome to make a donation to a fund that has been set up to help cover the cost of her medical treatment. Any donation, large or small, helps.
